A Nurse's Calling: Miriam's Story from Akatsi, Ghana

"Before I joined the mission to Akatsi, I was feeling spiritually dry. Nursing had become just a job. But being in Ghana changed everything," said Miriam, a nurse volunteer from the U.S.

During the five-day medical mission in Akatsi, Miriam treated hundreds of patients suffering from preventable conditions. "One woman came in with a badly infected wound. We cleaned it, treated her, and gave her medication. She held my hands, looked into my eyes, and said, 'God sent you.' That moment brought tears to my eyes—it was faith in action in the purest form."

Miriam returned home transformed, now leading her local church's outreach ministry. "My faith is no longer passive. It's a call to serve."

Redemption in Nairobi: Peter’s Journey

Peter grew up in one of Nairobi’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods. Orphaned at 10, he fell into drug use and gang life. "I didn’t see a way out," Peter recalled. But everything changed during a health outreach camp held by Friends of Africa.

"They gave me a check-up, yes—but more than that, they saw me. They prayed with me. They told me I mattered. That was the beginning of a new life."

Now a trained community health volunteer, Peter shares his testimony with local youth. "Every day, I share what God did for me. Faith in action is what saved my life."

A Midwife’s Mission: Grace’s Service in Northern Uganda

Grace, a midwife from Nigeria, joined a cross-border mission to Northern Uganda. In one remote village, she assisted in delivering a baby for a woman who had never had access to prenatal care.

"She named the child 'Hope,'" Grace recalled. "She said our presence gave her strength. That’s when I realized: we’re not just giving care—we’re sharing the love of Christ."

The community now has two trained birth attendants, thanks to the training provided during the mission. Grace says, "Every baby safely born is a testimony of faith in action."

From Skepticism to Service: James, a First-Time Volunteer

James, a logistics manager from Atlanta, had never been on a mission trip and wasn’t sure what to expect. "I thought I was just going to carry boxes and manage supplies. But it became so much more."

During a mission in Kenya, James was asked to help translate for a medical volunteer. In doing so, he engaged deeply with the people and heard their stories. "I saw how much faith they had, even with so little. Their strength humbled me."

Now James volunteers every year. "Faith in action isn't just about preaching—it's about presence, compassion, and commitment."

A Village United: The Impact in Oyo State, Nigeria

In Oyo State, Nigeria, a full-community health and hygiene initiative brought together elders, youth, and families. Workshops on clean water, nutrition, and disease prevention were held alongside a mobile medical clinic.

"It felt like heaven came to visit," said local elder Adewale. "We saw love in their actions. Our children are healthier. Our community is stronger."

The project included the installation of two clean water boreholes and training sessions for local health promoters. This was more than aid—it was sustainable development rooted in faith in action.

A Pastor’s Perspective: Rev. Daniel, Mission Partner

Reverend Daniel, a mission partner from Ghana, has collaborated with Friends of Africa for over a decade. "We preach every Sunday, but when you bring medicine, food, and training—people truly understand God’s love."
